A Type 1 Turn is one of 8 types of turns, it is the first turn that everyone should learn and does not for 1 important reason. It temporarily goes against the line of dance. A Type 1 turn is a what’s called a ‘Walking Turn’. And it’s exactly what it sounds like, you walk in an extremely tight circle in the line of dance with your partner. This turn is insanely useful and has incredibly useful properties that can be exploited. Especially when you pair it with the 6 Ways of Walking! It has near infinite possibilities. However, as mentioned, it does have ONE failing and that is for 1, possibly 2 steps, the turn will TEMPORARILY go against the line of dance. WHich means that as a Lead, you should only use this turn when there is appropriate space to invoke such a turn. It should be noted that this turn can not and should not exceed the limitations of the LANE of dance. Meaning that the space that the turn takes up should not be any larger than width of the lane of dance that you’re operating in. Furthermore it should also not exceed a Baldosa Tile in terms of forward and back.”
